Certificate of Proficiency:

The Certificate of Proficiency (sometimes referred to as a CoP) is the first step in completing your training. This Scouting Qualification will enable Rover Scouts to be Youth Program Leaders or Program Support Leaders and opens many doors to endless opportunities once completed.

Depending on how Rover Scouts choose to complete their Certificate of Proficiency, this can be completed by undertaking Scouting Essentials Training, and Scouting Adventure or Scouting Management. For specific information on these courses check out the other pages below.

First Steps: Scouting Essentials

Scouting Essentials is the first step of your journey towards completing the Certificate of Proficiency.
Scouting Essentials Training comprises of On-Demand learning, in-service activities,  Scouting Essentials training course, and general on the job training. Once you have completed your Scouting Essentials course you will able to move onto your Scouting Adventures components of your Certificate of Proficiency.

An outline of Scouting Essentials is offered below:

On-Demand Learning
First up, before you can attend your Scouting Essentials training, you will need to complete some On-Demand learning modules. some of which you would have completed as part of your Adult Membership.
You can find the On-Demand learning at https://training.scouts.com.au

Before you can attend Scouting Essentials you will need to complete all the On-Demand learning under:
- Scouting Preliminary
- Scouting Essentials
If your login hasn't already been preset find "Adult Leader Training" and set "Youth Program Leader" as your training. Click into that curriculum to access the On-Demand modules after that.

On-Demand Modules have been set up so that you if you are already knowledgeable in a certain topic you can complete a pre-module quiz and get recognition for already knowing the content. Making this aspect of your training super easy.

Application to attend Training
Once you have completed the On-Demand learning you will need to apply to attend a Scouting Essentials Training Course.

To do this you will need to submit a TR1 (Application to Attend Training).
You can download this form from the MyScout Resources tab.
Once you have filled it in, you will need your Group Leader to sign it. it will then need to be sent to training@scoutswa.com.au 3 weeks before your selected course.

If everything has been completed you will get a confirmation that you have been successful in getting onto the course. closer to the course you will get an email with all the course information.

The Course
You are ready to attend Scouting Essentials! Go along and take in as much as you can. It is a great way to meet new people, network within scouting and find out more about what other groups are up to in WA. An emailed letter will be sent out the week prior that will explain everything you need to bring with you for the course. In the meantime ensure that your details (dietary, medical and contact) are up-to-date on MyScout

Post-Course
After the course is completed you are now able to undertake your Scouting Adventures On-Demand learning and course.

Program Support Leader Pathway: Scouting Management

Scouting Management is the second course that can be used to complete a Certificate of Proficiency. Where Youth Program Leaders have Scouting Adventure, Program Support Leaders need to complete Scouting Management instead.

The prerequisites for this course are:
- Scouting Essentials.
- Scouting Management On-Demand Learning.

Scouting Management is regarded as the recommended course for Rover Scouts planning on taking up leadership roles within their section, whether it be a Unit Leader, member of the WA Rover Council Executive or the WA Rover Council Chairman! That being said there is nothing stopping you from doing Scouting Adventure as well.

Youth Program Leader Pathway: Scouting Adventure

Scouting Adventure is the alternative course to Scouting Management that be used to complete a Certificate of Proficiency. Members completing their Certificate via this pathway are completing the Youth Program Leader Pathway.

The prerequisites for this course are:

- Scouting Essentials

- Scouting Adventure On-Demand Learning.

Scouting Adventure looks at the development of outdoor skills and how to mentor others, especially Youth Members in their Outdoor Adventure Skills.

Final Step: Certificate of Proficiency Evaluation

After completion of your second course, whether it be Scouting Management or Scouting  Adventure, you will need to complete a Certificate of Proficiency Evaluation with your Group Leader. Once done you will be signed off as having completed your Certificate of Proficiency as a Youth Program Leader or Program Support Leader and awarded your Gilwell Woggle in recognition of this achievement.
